Steve Ballmer: Οι κάτοχοι Mac πληρώνουν $500 για το λογότυπο της Apple

Όπως φαίνεται ο Steve Balmer CEO της Microsoft δεν έχει και τις καλύτερες απόψεις για την τιμολόγηση των προϊόντων της Apple. Ο Steve Balmer βρισκόταν αυτή την εβδομάδα στη Νέα Υόρκη για το McGraw-Hill's 2009 Media Summit και εκεί βρήκε την ευκαιρία για συνέντευξη ο Steven Adler, chief editor του Business Week. Τότε ήταν που ο Balmer έκανε και την κριτική του για τα προϊόντα της Apple λέγοντας τα παρακάτω λόγια:

Apple gained about one point, but now I think the tide has really turned back the other direction. The economy is helpful. Paying an extra $500 for a computer in this environment-same piece of hardware-paying $500 more to get a logo on it? I think that's a more challenging proposition for the average person than it used to be.

Και όντως έχει ένα δίκιο σε αυτά που λέει, μιας και οι πωλήσεις της Apple πέσανε την περίοδο Ιανουαρίου-Φεβρουαρίου, ενώ αντίθετα οι πωλήσεις των υπολογιστών ανέβηκαν. Ωστόσο δε ξέρουμε αν αυτό οφείλεται είτε στο ότι ο Steve Jobs έφυγε από την Apple, είτε στις τιμές που έχουν τα προϊόντα τους. Πάντως το ότι οι τιμές τις Apple είναι λίγο πιο τσουχτερές ισχύει, αρκεί να σκεφτούμε τις τιμές των iPod, του iPhone και των MacBook. Κατά τη γνώμη μου βέβαια δε πληρώνεις μόνο το logo, αλλά και ότι συνεπάγεται με αυτό το σηματάκι. Πέρα από το hardware, πληρώνεις το λογισμικό και το design της συσκευής, δε νομίζω να διαφωνεί κανείς στο ότι η Apple βγάζει τα ομορφότερα laptop, gadgets και γενικά pc. Το θέμα είναι αν όντως αξίζει να δώσεις αυτά τα +$500 για να τα αποκτήσεις όλα αυτά. Για να δούμε τι λέει ο Balmer πάνω σε αυτό και αν έχει αγοράσει ποτέ κάτι της Apple:

No, none. I don't, my sons don't, my wife doesn't. You're talking to a guy, though, whose dad worked for Ford, and once Ford sold Land Rover and Jaguar, we're selling the cars to get Fords, so you may have a weird outlier in me.

Steve responds to question about the "I'm a PC" campaign:

Windows has 97 percent [marketshare], Mac has got 3. So, yes, what's the definition of a PC? It used to be a PC was any computer. Now what's a PC? It's a Windows computer. So, Apple may have helped slightly on that definition, in which case I'm very happy. And I think that's a campaign that again so far the initial testing and measurement says it's a campaign that really is resonating well with our audience.

Steve responds to question about Apple, "When you look at the company, can it survive? Is it going to survive, and should we necessarily care if it survives?:

Number one, it depends upon strategic decisions and investment decisions that Apple makes now. It's not known one way or the other, in my opinion. Number two, should we care? I care about the Mac, and I would find it sad, very sad, if Apple was not a thriving part of the computer business. Because it's always added value in unique ways, done good work, and I would find that a very, very sad thing. So from my personal perspective, yeah, I do care. But should the average customer care? Should the average investor care? I don't know.
